My Ethos

When I first meet you and your dog you will receive a warm welcome from myself. I will allow your dog to greet me in its own time. Some dogs are happy to come straight over to me (a stranger!) and some are naturally a little more reserved. I will then talk through your requirements and what you would like me to achieve during your dog's session. It can sometimes take a few sessions to achieve the style that you would like your dog to have as we work through the balancing act between style desires, session frequency, level of brushing at home, and the dog's general life style/habits. The aim is to get from one session to the next without your dog becoming matted. I will work with you to achieve the best outcome for all involved but it's always important to remember that the dog's health and welfare should always be top priority. For example, an owner may love the long shaggy look of a curly cute Cockerpoo but not be able to maintain adequate home brushing and the dog often gets matted. In this scenario there are a few options - the dog needs more frequent sessions with me in order to maintain the coat, or the coat is cut shorter (often mid-length) and is therefore easier to maintain. Yes, those lovely long curly locks will have gone but the dog won't get matted between sessions and will therefore be happier and they will avoid the health implications that come with a matted coat. For most dogs that have long hair or need haircuts, they will need to come to me every 6 to 8 weeks and I find this is about right to balance the expense of professional sessions for the owner, with maintaining a mat free coat and keeping a mid length fluffy look, which most owners desire......and keeps you, me and your doggy happy!
I tailor my services on an individual basis, so the plan we create together for your dog, can be modified if and when necessary.

The Process

If you have a dog past the puppy stage in life and have been using another professional groomer but are looking to join Regency Grooming then welcome! Every dog that comes to Regency Grooming is treated like I would my own and over time genuine trust and friendship develops between myself, and you and your dog. I take great pride in giving your dog as calming and safe a place to be groomed in as possible. After all, it is unnatural for a dog to go through the grooming process, it is only through our breeding of hairy beasts (!) that it becomes a necessity.

Unfortunately to a dog, a day at the groomers is not quite the same as a day at the spa for ourselves! But it should be completely possible for dogs to be groomed without excessive worry and stress and this is always my aim. Sometimes if they've endured years of a busy noisy salon, they never quite learn to relax about it, but the vast majority of the adult dogs that join me on my one-to-one basis will learn to relax, if not wholly, then at least partly, thereby reducing the level of stress they experience through this necessary process of grooming.
While in the salon, I tend to tune in to Classic FM, Smooth Chill radio or generic 'spa' music. This isn't because I'm a massive fan (although I don't find them offensive!) but I have found that it does help to create a calming environment and the dog's really do seem to relax to it.

The outcome

Hopefully a happy dog, a happy groomer and a happy owner!
